I desperately wanted to like Neuromancer. It's been billed as the cyberpunk text, and Gibson coined many of the terms we still today associate with techy science fiction, like 'matrix', 'jacking in', even 'cyberspace' itself.
What can I say about Fanon that hasn't already been said better than I ever will? The Wretched of the Earth is truly a seminal text for anyone who wishes to engage with ideas about decolonization and postcolonialism. Fanon is an astute and original thinker, and uses his experience as a psychotherapist to shine a harsh light on the economic and psychological degradation inflicted by imperalism.
I also post regular reading updates on my Instagram account @periphra.sis. My username comes from the prose style ‘periphrasis’, which is derived from the Greek phrase for “talking around”. Periphrasis often occurs when a more concise and direct way of saying something is replaced by a longer, more verbose phrase that points to the same thing. An example would be to refer to a banana as an “elongated yellow fruit”, or to refer to the ocean as the “briny deep”.
